Water Safety Plans - Making them stick!

Water Safety Planning is a key tool in any water supplier’s toolbox to ensure continued and enhanced drinking water quality and ultimately the public health protection for the communities we serve.In New Zealand, the Water Services Act 2021 requires owners of water supplies to prepare and implement water safety plans.

Although this legislation is relatively new, the benefits of water safety planning using risk management approaches go way beyond legislative compliance. They are an integral component of an asset management framework. Like all components of an asset management framework the use of water safety plans by suppliers will gain maturity with time if there is determination by the supplier for ongoing improvement.

ProjectMax in partnership with the WRc are keen to support organisations improve water safety planning maturity through passing on the experience and lessons learned from elsewhere.

After an introduction from Rob Blakemore (ProjectMax), Dr Austen Buck (WRc) will explore the fundamental principles of effective water safety planning, lessons learnt from the implementation of WSP in the UK, and explore the wide-ranging benefits of implementing effective WSP, including their ability to optimise expenditure for maximum risk reduction
